A northeast Iowa sheriff used an ATV to guide a bear away from the town of West Union.

The black bear was reported to the Fayette County sheriff’s department on Friday morning, and deputies spotted the animal about a half-mile from North Fayette High School.

The Des Moines Register reports (http://dmreg.co/Kx2L21 ) Sheriff Marty Fischer used an ATV to turn the bear north, then guided it two miles from town. The bear later entered a wooded area.

While authorities were responding, North Fayette Community Schools officials kept students inside.
