Sierra Cross Country Series – California ATV Racing

I must admit that since I was a little kid I wanted to race something motorized.  It started out as dirt bikes and grew to ATVs. I grew up within a stone’s throw of Hangtown, a  43 year old premier motocross event in Northern California.

However now Northern California ATV owners now have another off-road racing series. The Sierra Cross Country Series (SCCS) is an ATV racing series that has begun this year. SCCS’s mission is to offer cross country racers a friendly, competitive and family orientated place to camp and race with in the Sierra Foot Hills area.

According to the SCCS website:

SCCS tracks will be set up as a loop over natural terrain that consist of tight  sections, technical sections along with fast open sections. The main track for this series will typically (when size of property allows for it) be a 5 mile loop on a 75 minute clock and the Pee Wee track will be about a 1 mile loop on a 20 minute clock.

Each race weekend will begin on Friday with gates opening  at 3:00 p.m. for primitive camping and Rving (no hook ups).

Saturday, gates will open at 6:00 a.m. and open practice will be  9:30 – 11:30.

Pee Wee, ‘C’ class, novice, women and moms classes will start  Saturday afternoon. Sunday morning will get underway with  the A and B classes wrapping up the weekend.

These races will be hosted by private property owners, who have agreed to allow us to use their property for OUR sport.

The eight-round series runs from April to October. The season officially begins April 8-10, at Falling Waters Ranch in Grass Valley, Calif. 2011 Race Schedule
