Mona Pole Canyon, Utah

Mona Pole Canyon

About 10 years ago I was told of a canyon in southern Utah County called the Mona Pole Canyon.  I have always wanted to run it… first in the jeep during my jeep addiction days and then more recently on atvs. Recently I got my chance to run the canyon.

Mona Pole Trail with friends and family

Mona, Utah is a tiny little hamlet in the southern portion of Utah County.  To say its tiny would be a gross understatement.  Mona Pole is a trail that rises from the valley floor up onto the Mount Nebo loop. The trail is easy to find. Take I-15 South to Exit # 233 and go west. Turn right (North) on Main Street. Turn right (East) on 1800 North toward the Mona Cement Plant. When you get to the cement plant/gravel pit turn right. See Google Map below or Link to Google Earth.

The first few miles of the trail are steep and covered in extremely loose rock.  We had no trouble riding a couple of Honda Ranchers, a Yamaha Grizzly 450 and a Yamaha Raptor 700 up the trail.  The trail is plenty wide for all UTV’s.  There is also no trail width restriction so its Jeep and 4×4 friendly.  After a few miles of steep climbing the trail becomes wooded with several meadows along the way.  We were stopped about 3/4 of the way up the trail by snow which was kind of surprising since it was June 24.  The trail is now open 100%.

The scenery is gorgeous and there is mines and things to explore.
